Thymogen (L-Glu-L-Trp) is registered in Russia but not FDA- or EMA-approved; in the West the same dipeptide was tested as IM862 (oglufanide). Doses in Russian abstracts may be affected by translation.

What the research says

B
Some human evidence
Why: Several RCTs with conflicting results: a 202-patient Kaposi's sarcoma phase III and a prostate trial were negative, small gastritis and surgery trials positive.

Thymogen is the dipeptide L-Glu-L-Trp, also developed in the West as IM862 (oglufanide). Small Russian clinical studies report immune and clinical benefits, including two recent placebo-controlled gastritis analyses of an alpha-Glu-Trp product, but the most rigorous Western trials of the same dipeptide were negative: a 202-patient phase III trial in AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma and a 71-patient prostate cancer trial showed no benefit over placebo.

    Placebo
    Main outcome
    Tumor response rate
    Sample
    202 HIV-positive patients enrolled: 104 on IM862, 98 on placebo
    Authors' conclusion
IM862 was not superior to placebo and may accelerate time to progression. Antiretroviral therapy alone gave substantial sustained responses and may have confounded earlier estimates.
    Limitations
Antiretroviral use differed between arms (88% vs 96%); IM862 is the thymogen-related dipeptide, not thymogen itself.

Thymogen: questions people ask

What is Thymogen?

Synthetic immunomodulating dipeptide. Glutamyl-tryptophan, a two-amino-acid peptide developed in Russia to stimulate immune cells.

How much does Thymogen cost?

The cheapest Thymogen from an independently tested vendor is $0.750 per mg (Uther, Thymogen 20mg (10 Vials / Kit), $150.00). Across 9 listings from 9 vendors the median is $3.45 per mg.

Where can I buy Thymogen?

9 vendors tested by Finnrick sell Thymogen. The cheapest per mg right now: Uther ($0.750), Amino Usa ($2.25), Eros Peptides ($2.55). 1 of them publish a lab report (COA) for Thymogen; compare lab scores and reports in the table above before buying.

How much bacteriostatic water for 20 mg of Thymogen?

Adding 2 mL of bacteriostatic water to a 20 mg vial of Thymogen gives 10 mg/mL: each 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe holds 1,000 mcg. With 1 mL it's 20 mg/mL (2,000 mcg per 10 units); with 3 mL, 6.667 mg/mL (666.7 mcg per 10 units). More water makes small amounts easier to measure. Mixing charts: 20 mg.

Is Thymogen FDA approved?

Approved in Russia; not approved in the US.

Can Thymogen be compounded in the US?

Not an FDA-approved drug and not nominated for FDA's 503A bulks list, so US pharmacies can't legally compound it. Compounding status for every peptide.

Does Thymogen work? What does the research say?

Evidence grade B (some human evidence), from 11 papers: Several RCTs with conflicting results: a 202-patient Kaposi's sarcoma phase III and a prostate trial were negative, small gastritis and surgery trials positive. Thymogen is the dipeptide L-Glu-L-Trp, also developed in the West as IM862 (oglufanide). See the papers.

What dose of Thymogen was used in studies?

Thymogen is studied in people. HIV-positive adults with AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (phase III, double-blind, placebo-controlled; tested as IM862 / L-Glu-L-Trp): 5 mg every other day; adults with AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, randomized to two schedules (no placebo; IM862): 5 mg 5 days on / 5 days off, or every other day; adults with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (phase II, single-arm; IM862): 20 mg three times daily. These are amounts used in published studies or official labels, not a recommendation.

What are the side effects of Thymogen?

Reported in the research: Headache, fatigue, tingling, nausea (mild, transient); Faster tumor progression vs placebo in Kaposi's sarcoma. Western IM862 trials reported the dipeptide as well tolerated, with only mild transient symptoms; Russian thymogen studies report no complications but give little safety detail.
