Doses studied in research Animal or lab studies only
What was given to people (or animals) in published studies and official labels, each linked to its source. This is not a recommendation: study products, purity and supervision differ from research-grade vials.
Animal studies: Mouse studies gave humanin analogues by direct brain injection (intracerebroventricular; e.g. at least 50 pmol of S14G-HN, or 1000 pmol of [Gly14]-humanin) or by intraperitoneal injection of HNG; cell studies report activity in the low-micromolar range.
No human treatment trials of humanin or its analogues have been published; human studies only measure naturally circulating humanin levels. Doses in animal studies do not translate directly to people.
What the research says
Humanin and its potent analogue HNG have protective effects in mouse and cell models of Alzheimer's disease, stroke, diabetes and aging, but no human treatment trials have been published. One mouse study found humanin accelerated breast-cancer growth and blunted chemotherapy.

The mitochondrial derived peptide humanin is a regulator of lifespan and healthspan.Humans + animalsCombined worm lifespan, mouse treatment (HNG twice weekly) and human circulating-level comparisons
Humanin extended lifespan in worms, and HNG treatment improved metabolic healthspan markers and lowered inflammation in middle-aged mice; centenarians' children had higher circulating humanin (observational).
Study details
- Studied
- C. elegans, humanin transgenic and middle-aged mice, naked mole-rats, and humans (children of centenarians; Alzheimer's disease and MELAS patients)
- Compared with
- Age-matched control subjects (human levels)
- Main outcome
- Lifespan, metabolic healthspan parameters, inflammatory markers, circulating humanin levels
- Authors' conclusion
- Humanin overexpression increased lifespan in C. elegans (daf-16/Foxo dependent), HNG improved metabolic healthspan parameters and reduced inflammatory markers in mice, and humanin levels were higher in children of centenarians; the authors say humanin is linked to improved healthspan and lifespan.
- Limitations

Humanin: questions people ask
What is Humanin?
Mitochondria-derived peptide. A small peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA that protects cells from stress and death in lab and animal studies, including brain and heart cells.
How much does Humanin cost?
The cheapest Humanin from an independently tested vendor is $1.50 per mg (Andy Peps Studio, HU10 Humanin 10mg * 10 vials, $150.00). Across 11 listings from 10 vendors the median is $3.70 per mg.
Where can I buy Humanin?
10 vendors tested by Finnrick sell Humanin. The cheapest per mg right now: Andy Peps Studio ($1.50), Baohua Dongnuo Biotechnology BHD ($1.50), LN Peptides ($1.50). 2 of them publish a lab report (COA) for Humanin; compare lab scores and reports in the table above before buying.
How much bacteriostatic water for 10 mg of Humanin?
Adding 2 mL of bacteriostatic water to a 10 mg vial of Humanin gives 5 mg/mL: each 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe holds 500 mcg. With 1 mL it's 10 mg/mL (1,000 mcg per 10 units); with 3 mL, 3.333 mg/mL (333.3 mcg per 10 units). More water makes small amounts easier to measure. Mixing charts: 10 mg.
Is Humanin FDA approved?
Not approved. Research use only.
Can Humanin be compounded in the US?
Not an FDA-approved drug and not nominated for FDA's 503A bulks list, so US pharmacies can't legally compound it. Compounding status for every peptide.
Does Humanin work? What does the research say?
Evidence grade C (mostly animal studies), from 11 papers: Many mouse and rat studies (Alzheimer's, stroke, diabetes, aging) with mostly protective effects, one showing faster tumour growth; no human trials. Humanin and its potent analogue HNG have protective effects in mouse and cell models of Alzheimer's disease, stroke, diabetes and aging, but no human treatment trials have been published. One mouse study found humanin accelerated breast-cancer growth and blunted chemotherapy. See the papers.
What dose of Humanin was used in studies?
Humanin is tested only in animals or cells. Mouse studies gave humanin analogues by direct brain injection (intracerebroventricular; e.g. at least 50 pmol of S14G-HN, or 1000 pmol of [Gly14]-humanin) or by intraperitoneal injection of HNG; cell studies report activity in the low-micromolar range. These are amounts used in published studies or official labels, not a recommendation.
