Doses studied in research Animal or lab studies only
What was given to people (or animals) in published studies and official labels, each linked to its source. This is not a recommendation: study products, purity and supervision differ from research-grade vials.
Animal studies: The tripeptide Glu-Asp-Leu (EDL) sold as Ovagen has only been tested in renal cell culture (dose not stated); a separate veterinary FSH product also named Ovagen was given to cattle (e.g. 4.4 mg or 9 mg total s.c.) and sheep to induce superovulation, which says nothing about the peptide.
No human studies of the Glu-Asp-Leu peptide exist. The veterinary FSH product sharing the name is a different substance.
What the research says
'Ovagen' as sold for research is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Leu (EDL). The evidence found is one renal cell-culture paper and one rat study of kidney injury, with no human data. The name is shared with an unrelated veterinary FSH product, whose livestock studies were excluded because they say nothing about the peptide.

[Tripeptides slow down aging process in renal cell culture].Cells / labIn vitro study of tripeptides AED and EDL, with DNA-binding models
In ageing renal cell culture, the tripeptides AED and EDL increased proliferation, lowered the senescence markers p16, p21 and p53 and raised SIRT-6.
Study details
- Studied
- Ageing renal cell culture
- Compared with
- Young vs aged cultures
- Main outcome
- Proliferation and aging markers p16, p21, p53, SIRT-6
- Authors' conclusion
- Peptides AED and EDL increased proliferation, decreased aging markers and increased SIRT-6; the authors propose DNA interaction as the cause of changed gene expression.
- Limitations
- In vitro; DNA interactions are computed models.
-
Nephroprotective Effect of EDL Peptide at Acute Injury of Kidneys of Different Genesis.Animalssize not reportedAnimal experimental models
In rats with gentamicin-induced kidney injury or ischemia/reperfusion injury, the EDL peptide prevented oliguria and azotemia, reduced proteinuria and lipid peroxidation and normalised kidney energy supply.
Study details
- Studied
- Rats with gentamicin nephropathy or kidney ischemia/reperfusion injury
- Main outcome
- Renal function and oxidative-stress markers
- Authors' conclusion
- EDL peptide had a nephroprotective effect in both models, supporting further study in kidney pathologies.
- Limitations
- Rat study from the peptide developer's research tradition; no human data.
Reported side effects
No human data for the Glu-Asp-Leu peptide; the human-relevant literature under this name is veterinary FSH work in livestock.
✓ positive · ✗ negative · ~ mixed · ? inconclusive, judged on each paper's own main outcome. Grades: A strong human evidence → D little or none. Papers and verdicts are drawn from PubMed, Europe PMC and Russian journals (CyberLeninka); not medical advice.

Ovagen: questions people ask
What is Ovagen?
Russian short-peptide bioregulator. One of the Khavinson "bioregulator" peptides from Russian aging research. Evidence comes mainly from Russian cell and animal studies.
How much does Ovagen cost?
The cheapest Ovagen from an independently tested vendor is $0.475 per mg (Andy Peps Studio, OV20 Ovagen 20mg * 10 vials, $95.00). Across 18 listings from 16 vendors the median is $2.70 per mg.
Where can I buy Ovagen?
16 vendors tested by Finnrick sell Ovagen. The cheapest per mg right now: Andy Peps Studio ($0.475), Baohua Dongnuo Biotechnology BHD ($0.475), LN Peptides ($0.475). 1 of them publish a lab report (COA) for Ovagen; compare lab scores and reports in the table above before buying.
How much bacteriostatic water for 20 mg of Ovagen?
Adding 2 mL of bacteriostatic water to a 20 mg vial of Ovagen gives 10 mg/mL: each 10 units on a U-100 insulin syringe holds 1,000 mcg. With 1 mL it's 20 mg/mL (2,000 mcg per 10 units); with 3 mL, 6.667 mg/mL (666.7 mcg per 10 units). More water makes small amounts easier to measure. Mixing charts: 20 mg.
Is Ovagen FDA approved?
Sold as a supplement in Russia; not approved in the US. Research use only.
Can Ovagen be compounded in the US?
Not an FDA-approved drug and not nominated for FDA's 503A bulks list, so US pharmacies can't legally compound it. Compounding status for every peptide.
Does Ovagen work? What does the research say?
Evidence grade D (little or no evidence), from 2 papers: Only one rat kidney-injury study and one cell-culture study of the EDL tripeptide; no human data. See the papers.
What dose of Ovagen was used in studies?
Ovagen is tested only in animals or cells. The tripeptide Glu-Asp-Leu (EDL) sold as Ovagen has only been tested in renal cell culture (dose not stated); a separate veterinary FSH product also named Ovagen was given to cattle (e.g. 4.4 mg or 9 mg total s.c.) and sheep to induce superovulation, which says nothing about the peptide. These are amounts used in published studies or official labels, not a recommendation.
